THE DEVELOPMENT OF A LOW-TEMPERATURE CYLINDRICAL THERMIONIC GENERATOR.

Abstract

The specific objectives of the program include: evaluation of existing samples; design and evaluation of improved modules; investigation of low-work-function collectors; investigation of high-temperature collector operation; and investigation of the effects of inert gas injection. The first three months of work covered the analysis of prior failures (See AD-436 806), a continuation of life testing to more than 4300 hours, and the initial design for an improved module. A control standard converter was fabricated for the investigation of low-workfunction collectors. One sample collector material was evaluated. A converter design, A-1195, was modified for high-temperature operation, and one converter employing a molybdenum emitter and molybdenum collector was fabricated. (Author)
