TELECONFERENCING: GUIDELINES FOR RESEARCH.

Abstract

Even a partial list of the behavioral variables that could be resonably expected to affect the process and outcomes of a teleconferencing facility would virtually define the field of social psychology; and a list of the customary methods of studying those variables would involve several of the social sciences. Obviously, what is required, at least for the initial period of research, is the selection of a relatively small number of variables -- hopefully, those most immediately relevant to the questions that must be answered about teleconferencing. The purpose of the paper, therefore, is to propose criteria for selecting such a group of variables, and to suggest methods appropriate to their study. (Author)
