PRELIMINARY DESIGN STUDY OF A FLAT PLATE REFLECTOR AND SUPPORT UNIT.

Abstract

Parametric studies were conducted for every component going into the plate system of the Multi-Plate Antenna. Cost analyses were made on combinations of techniques, tolerances, materials, fabrication, assembly and installation with respect to a choice of operating capabilities of the entire antenna system. The optimum system will consist of 2100 hexagon shaped plates, actuated hydraulically. Each plate will have an area of 900 sq. ft. and will operate satisfactorily in wind velocities up to 25 M. P. H. In the proposed Arizona location wind velocities are below this level 99.5% of the time. Numerous design and cost analyses are presented in graphical format to permit rapid trade-offs in selecting optimum systems. (Author)
