THE UNPERTURBABILITY OF A SPHERICAL PENDULUM OF VARIABLE LENGTH WITH MOTION OF THE FULCRUM IN A CENTRAL GRAVITATIONAL FIELD; DETERMINATIONS OF CONSTRAINTS IN A SYSTEM OF RIGID BODIES; APPROXIMATE DESIGN OF PROTECTIVE METEOR SHIELDS,

Abstract

For a definite class of translations of the fulcrum, nonperturbability is obtained with a pendulum of variable length being based on the fact that for a definite law of variation of the pendulum length the force of inertia of the pendulum, stipulated by its rotational acceleration, counteracts the perturbing translational force of inertia of the pendulum. (Litvin) A mathematical determination was made of constraints in a system of rigid bodies. (Lur'ye) Account is given of a method for approximate design of a meteor shield based on the fact that when a meteor impacts a wall both the wall and the meteor itself are vaporized. Numerical examples are given. (Bezgin and Ivashchenko)
