Abstract
The paper presents remarks about and supplements to Polovin's paper on Sturrock's theory of growing waves. The paper of Polovin does not clarify all the difficulties in the theory of Sturrock. With these remarks and supplements, a complete connection is established between the theory of Sturrock and the analytical method developed in this paper. It is shown that for the absolute instability, the demonstration of Polovin has to be completed to avoid an ambiguity. For evanescence, the boundary conditions introduced by Polovin must not be independent, so that some root gives a zero contribution; for absolute instability, it would be impossible to introduce any boundary conditions.
