COMPARATIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF SPECTROPHOTOXPXPXMETRIC METHODS FOR IDENTIGYING TANTALUM AND NIOBIUM,

Abstract

A comparative study was made of spectrophotometric methods for determination of tantalum and niobium with inorganic reagents. A formal molar extinction coefficient was used for comparing methods. Absorption spectra studies were made of compounds of niobium and tantalum and inorganic reagents which were used for their photometric identification. It was found that the best inorganic reagent method for niobium identification is the ether-extraction method. In determination of niobium in the presence of tungsten it is better to apply the thiocyanate method in a water-acetone medium; here the sensitivity decreases but the adverse influence of tungsten is lessened.
