SHORT-RANGE FORCES IN ALLOYS.

Abstract

The power of the x-ray absorption spectra to ellucidate short-range forces operating in alloys having been clearly demonstrated, it remains to apply this method to various alloy systems. In the present instance it appears that a study of transition-metals and their alloys is probably most urgent. This is so because of the very large current interest in these alloys by others. Thus several alloy systems containing the magnetic elements Fe,Co, and Ni will be examined. At the same time, alloys containing copper will be looked into also because of their practical importance and because complementary data is readily available to help characterize them.
