SINTERING OF METAL OXIDES.

Abstract

The research program had the following major objectives: (1) To determine the transport mechanisms which control the sintering of a representative group of metal oxides; (2) To relate the observed sintering mechanisms to fundamental properties of the solids (vapor pressure, diffusion coefficients, deviations from stoichiometric composition); (3) To investigate the role of whisker growth in metal oxides on their sintering behavior; (4) To assess the influence of surface effects on sintering in oxide compounds.
