LATERAL VIBRATIONS OF AN AIRCRAFT, CAUSED BY EFFECT OF WIND GUSTS,

Abstract

In the article equations are developed establishing the connection between lateral vibrations of aircraft and horizontal gusts. Equations are written in a general form taking into account possible differences of components of wind on different sections of the boundary layer of the aircraft. The solution is introduced for the particular case, when wind can be assigned one value, by averaging all along the boundary layer of the aircraft. An analysis of the effect of gusts of different intensities on the side acceleration of the aircraft's center of gravity is conducted. The possibility is explained of solving the inverse problem -- finding characteristics of horizontal gustiness of the wind by side accelerations of aircraft. Numerical calculations were made for a 'Northrop 2E' aircraft. (Author)
