ANALYSIS OF FRICTION AND ARMING TIME IN A T293TYPE SETBACK-LEAF SYSTEM,

Abstract

Preliminary to a design of a setback-leaf system for the XM532 S and A unit to withstand the parachute malfunction requirement, an examination of frictional effects in a T293type setback-leaf system was made. It was found by analog computation that a coefficient of friction function could be used in analytic expressions to compute arming times in excellent agreement with the arming time of the leaf system obtained under ambient conditions in a centrifuge. Attempts to ascertain if the arming time of the leaf system under actual firing conditions was also in agreement when this function was used failed due to instrumentation difficulties. (Author)
