A HEAT TRANSFER MODEL STUDY OF THE HOT WIRE INITIATOR

Abstract

A mathematical heat transfer model, applicable to determining the sensitivity to input current of a hot wire initiator, is developed. Simplifying assumptions are introduced which make the model amenable to solution using a medium size analog computer. The model is applied to the MARK 45 MOD O impulse cartridge. Solutions are compared to empirical sensitivity data for this cartridge conditioned at -80F, 68F and 225F.
