RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO IMPROVE THE RESOLUTION OF IATRON DIRECT VIEW STORAGE TUBES.

Abstract

Tests indicate high resolution direct view storage tubes require finer than 250 mesh collector screens. This is indicated by line width measurements of the stored line and by microscopic examination of the writing beam at the phosphor. Although the stored line width measurements indicate the resolution with 750 or 1000 mesh is better than with 500 mesh collectors, no improvement was observed in the writing beam itself with the finer mesh. Since the reasons for this are not understood, further testing is warranted. (Author)
