RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EQUIPMENT CONFIGURATION STANDARDS FOR TOWER CABS.

Abstract

The report contains the results of a series of air traffic control exercises that were conducted to determine a limited number of equipment arrangements which can be used as agency standards for control towers of four different workload levels. The test facility consisted of a pentagonal tower cab mounted on top of a 110 ft structure located at NAFEC, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Inside the cab, a mock-up was constructed of specially designed consoles and console instrument turrets that could be moved from place to place. The mock-up served as a simulator for testing the efficacy of various equipment configurations. Recommendations are presented in respect to each workload level. (Author)
