MILITARY NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

Abstract

This report was designed primarily to assist both Air Force planning groups and civil engineering functions in the proper adaptation of nuclear power to satisfy their requirements. Air Force, Army, and AEC interrelationships within the nuclear power program are discussed along with development and procurement procedures. Selection standards and training requirements for nuclear power plant operators and officer-in-charge are presented. Cost curves have been included to aid in estimating the capital and operating costs of nuclear and conventional power plants and the breakeven fuel-oil prices for nuclear versus fossil-fuel plants. The capabilities of nuclear power within existing technology are evaluated and possible areas of application discussed.
