SOME STABILITY PROPERTIES OF A MATERIAL LAYER MODEL OF THE ATMOSPHERE.

Abstract

Some baroclinic stability properties of an atmospheric two-layer model, in which the bottom layer is bounded by two constant potential temperature surfaces, are investigated. The perturbation method is employed and the motion takes place on the beta-plane. Curves of neutral stability are constructed for three different cases and the results discussed. (Author)
