RESEARCH ON THERMAL CONVECTION IN ROTATING FLUIDS AND ON ROTATING BAROTROPIC FLUIDS.

Abstract

Progress is reported concerning studies directed toward the laboratory modeling of the dynamic processes of planetary atmospheres. Areas of investigation include: heat transfer by thermal convection in a rotating fluid; flow instabilities in thermal convection in a rotating fluid; structure of thermal boundary layers in thermal convection in a rotating fluid; 'Taylor columns' in a rotating barotropic fluid; detached boundary layers in a rotating barotropic fluid. The initial phases of these investigations were reported in AD-269 965.
