MICROPLASTICITY

Abstract

The report presents a review of experimental methods for measuring plastic deformation that occurs at strains of approx. 0.000001 in./in. plastic. Dislocation theory is applied to predict microstrain values for selected engineering materials, and calculated and experimental results are compared. It is demonstrated that a simplified theoretical approach can be used to predict the microstrain behavior to be expected for typical engineering materials.
