SCATTERED RADIATION FROM A COBALT-60 SOURCE IN A BRICK STRUCTURE,

Abstract

The scattered component of cobalt-60 radiation produced in a brick structure was determined. An end-window scintillation detector, connected to a 400-channel, pulseheight analyzer, and associated readout equipment were utilized for this study. It was found that a scatter component of 2.7% to 12.4% of the emitted radiation was produced by the brick walls and concrete floor of the magnesium cell. The scatter component can be extremely significant where dosimeters with enhanced, low-energy responses are used. (Author)
