ULTRASONIC LIGHT SCANNING AND ACTIVE OPTICAL IMAGING SYSTEM.

Abstract

Analytical and experimental investigations successfully demonstrated that: light beams can be non-mechanically deflected through angles in excess of 5 degrees by establishing, ultrasonically, a time varying refractive index gradient in a suitable medium; and an active optical imaging system employing two ultrasonic deflection cells which provide periodic two dimensional field illumination is physically realizable.
