NORTH ATLANTIC TELETYPE ENGINEERING STUDY. VOLUME II

Abstract

This engineering study was made in support of a program to provide TTY circuits between North American and Europe over the US-Government wholly owned and operated multi-channel communication system between Melville, Labrador (near Goose Bay) and Croughton, UK. On-site tests of representative TTY transmission techniques and actual measurements of the transmission media during the worst predictable propagation conditions were considered to be the best and most rigorous way of establishing the feasibility, cost, and performance of TTY communications over this system. The results of the RF studies which were made during the testing period, additional data from the NATTY tests, and the recommended course of action to implement a teletype network across the North Alantic are presented.
