RESEARCH DIRECTED TOWARD DEVELOPMENT OF A PROTOTYPE LUNAR TRANSPONDER (INCLUDING A FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE CONFIGURATION OF FOUR EARTH-BASED TRACKING STATIONS). VOLUME II.

Abstract

The transponder receives from the Earth-based tracking system (see AD-603 271) a nominal 5052.0833 MC carrier, frequency modulated by a range measurement signal, and simultaneously retransmits this signal on the same antenna as frequency modulation on a nominal 5000 MC carrier. The exact frequency is determined by the radial velocity of the transponder. The transponder is essentially a frequency modulated transceiver, which utilizes the transmitted signal as a local oscillator for the receiver. (Author)
