PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION LEADING TO A SOUND ANALYTICAL UNDERSTANDING OF EXISTING FACE-TYPE SEALS FOR SUBMARINE PROPELLER SHAFTS.

Abstract

The report presents the results of a preliminary study of the state of the art in the analysis of rotary face seals used in submarine shaft applications. The work was carried out in three phases: critical review of published work in the field, extension of existing analytical work to include the effects of other variables believed to be important; analysis of the results of this program and recommendation of areas for future study.
