Preliminary Analytical Investigation of Radical Face Seals

Abstract

The major phases of the study are: (a) a critical review of the literature on fundamental principles of face seal performance; (b) development of approximate methods for analyzing face seal performance to indicate which physical processes are most important and, in a qualitative way at least, to show how these processes can be controlled; (c) application of the analyses which have been devised to seals which are representative of deep submergence submarine propellor shaft seals.
