INVESTIGATION OF THE DYNAMICS OF IONIZED MEDIA (PLASMAS).

Abstract

The statistical mechanics of the electromagnetic field is treated in a fundamental way. Probability densities for the fields E and B at given points are the basic entities entering the theory. These densities satisfy an infinite set of coupled equations (hierarchy) analogous to but quite different in structure from the usual BBKGY hierarchy for particles. When particles are included, the equations for joint fieldparticle probabilities are also given. Some examples of methods useful in treating equilibrium and transport phenomena in both classical and quantum plasmas are discussed. (Author)
