THE METEROLOGICAL SATELLITE GROUND PICTURERECEIVER FOR ARMY MOBILE USE,

Abstract

The Meteorological Satellite Ground Picture-Receiver for Army mobile use is an experimental mobile receiving station which provides photofacsimile reproductions of local cloud-cover pictures transmitted from an orbiting Nimbus meteorological satellite. The pictures, in the form of slow-scan video signals, are continuously and automatically transmitted from the satellite's automatic picturetransmission subsystem, while the satellite is orbiting the earth. This report covers the design of this receiving station with all necessary equipment to receive the telemetered video signals and reconstruct these signals into a near real-time cloud-cover photograph.
