A CRITICAL SURVEY OF MAGNETOFLUID DYNAMICS. PART II: MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC CHANNEL FLOWS,

Abstract

The report gives a critical survey of the flow of an electrically conducting liquid in a pipe or channel under the influence of a transverse electromagnetic field. First, the fundamental principles on which the analysis of the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) channel flow is based are discussed. Then various MHD channel flows which contain the generalized Hartmann flow, laminar flow in pipes, unsteady flow and turbulent flow are analyzed in detail. A summary is given of present knowledge of MHD channel flow. (Author)
