OPTOELECTRONIC FUNCTIONAL ELECTRONIC BLOCKS.

Abstract

Investigations of optoelectronic phenomena are being performed in an effort to extend the applicability of integrated circuits. The combination of the isolation feature of optical coupling with existing silicon integrated circuit technology suggested a new series of Optoelectronic Functional Electronic Blocks which provide functions previously impossible or extremely difficult to attain in solid-state form. The program is divided into two tasks. Task I covers the design and fabrication of Optoelectronic Functional Electronic Blocks. The circuit design of the Optoelectronic Pulse Amplifier (OPA) was finalized and the photo mask layout was completed. A shielded photo diode is employed to provide electrical isolation at all frequencies. Task II is concerned with the semiconductor technology necessary to adequately implement the Optoelectronic Functional Electronic Blocks selected for study. (Author)
