FIXED RATIO PERFORMANCE OF PSYCHIATRIC PATIENTS' VERBAL BEHAVIOR IN A SMALL GROUP SITUATION,

Abstract

Three in-patients of a V.A. psychiatric ward were used to study the performance of fixed ratio verbal behavior in a small group situation. The behavior of only one of the Ss controlled the reinforcement of all the Ss. It was shown that increased rates were produced when S's reinforcement was contingent upon his verbal responses. When reinforcement was non-contingent S's performance was characterized by a lowered rate. When S's behavior was made contingent he would immediately increase his verbal rate. (Author)
