OPERATOR PERFORMANCE STUDIES: II. LEARNING ANALYSIS FROM THREE-PLANE MOTIONS.
Abstract
The purpose of the experiment was to find motion performance measurements which can replace (correlate highly with) the usual learning curve ordinate measurement (output units or performance times). The reason for obtaining a motion performances measurement to replace performance times or output units is two-fold: (1) To find a characteristic of human performance which causes differential learning performance times or output units, and (2) To develop a more precise measurement (rating or leveling) of operator performance. A simple task and motion pattern were used to provide the greatest control over the activities, to enable proper interpretation of results, and to permit realistic handling of the tremendous amount of data available from the UNOPAR. Each experiment in this series leads to more complicated motion experiments to provide basic theories upon which learning and operator performance predictions can be based.
