EVALUATION OF RMSP TUNGSTEN SHEET.

Abstract

Tensile tests using radiant heating methods on similar test specimens which were previously evaluated by resistance heating was completed. The determination of the formability behavior of RMSP tungsten sheet using a variety of shop processes was continued. Forming parameters using the various sheet gages were developed for brake forming, joggling, corrugating, dimpling, deep drawing, and roll forming. The weldability of RMSP tungsten sheet was determined by electron beam welding techniques. Tensile tests at elevated temperatures indicate that the strength of EB welded joints are approximately 40 to 50 percent of parent metal properties. Diffusion bonding parameters using an intermediate layer of one mil tantalum foil was established for tungsten sheet. Elevated temperature tensile tests performed on the single lap-shear tensile specimens indicated that the single lap-joint diffusion bonded specimens failed at lower than expected loads due to joint rotation under load.
