CALCULATION OF THE RADIAL EMISSION COEFFICIENT AND RADIAL TEMPERATURE PROFILES OF A CYLINDRICALLY SYMMETRIC OPTICALLY THICK PLASMA.

Abstract

An iteration method for obtaining the spectral emission coefficient of a cylindrically symmetric, optically thick plasma as a function of radius from the equation relating the emission coefficient to the observed, edge-on intensity profile of the plasma was developed. The method is valid for a wide range of total absorptivity of the plasma (o < alpha < 0.70). The method requires representing the experimental data by polynomials, and the solution is also in the form of a polynomial. The spectral absorption coefficient is also determined, and the radial temperature profile of the plasma calculated from Kirchhoff's law. A computer program was written to perform all necessary numerical calculations. The accuracy of the method is limited by the accuracy of the representation of the experimental data. (Author)
