HIGH POWER FAST FERRITE SWITCHES.

Abstract

It has been found that low-loss operation of the C-band switch is possible above the subsidiary resonance threshold. A breadboard model of the C-band switch has been fabricated and tested at one megawatt peak power for 15 minutes with no breakdown and approximately one db insertion loss. The waveguide was pressurized to forty psig. The ferrite materials to be used both in the C-band and the S-band switches have been selected, and the waveguide dimensions have been finalized. Fabrication of metalized beryllium oxide waveguide sections and all other deliverable hardware has begun. The laminated cores for the electromagnets have been ordered, and delivery is expected July 15. On receipt of the cores, development of the driver will be resumed. (Author)
