ON THE DERIVATION OF DISCONTINUITY CONDITIONS IN CONTINUUM MECHANICS,

Abstract

The usual discontinuity conditions at a surface of discontinuity in classical continuum mechanics are derived from an equation of energy and the use of invariance conditions under superposed rigid body motions. The modifications required when director and dipolar displacement fields are present are also indicated. (Author)
