A PURELY OPTICAL METHOD FOR THE DIRECT MEASUREMENT OF MOMENTS IN THIN BENT PLATES,

Abstract

A description and an application of the method are given. The main properties of the deformations and the stresses for a bent thin plate made of a homogeneous and isotropic material are reviewed. Plates made of two adherent layers of different materials enable optical measurement of the moments of flection and torsion. The method is applied to a square plate, resting on three points, and supporting a force applied at its center.
