Abstract

A set of observations on the process by which a group of individuals can become an effective organization is presented. Sections of the paper are concerned with a model of organizational development, mechanisms employed by organizations to deal with complex task situations, and mechanisms available to experimenters and managers to control and stimulate the development of an organization.
