VIBRATIONS OF A MULTI-WHEELED VEHICLE.
Abstract
The main objective of this analysis is to predict the limiting cross-country speed as a function of the vehicle's design parameters, the terrain geometry, and the crew's tolerance to the various accelerations. There are basically two types of information which are of importance in this analysis. They are (1) information concerning motion of the vehicle at each instant of time and (2) statistical information about the motions over long time periods. Obviously each category can be important. Knowing the motions as a function of time, it is possible to determine maximum motions. Also it may be possible with this type of information to select suspension components such that motions are minimized. With a statistical analysis, such quantities as mean-squared motions and the probability of accelerations exceeding some specified value can be determined. It is conceivable that both deterministic and statistical information will be required by the physiologist to specify the human tolerance level. Hence, this report presents analyses for both deterministic and random terrains. (Author)
