DIRECT CONVERSION OF PLASMA KINETIC ENERGY TO R. F. ELECTROMAGNETIC ENERGY.

Abstract

An outline of the guiding principles and the work accomplished during the contract is presented. This work produced: (1) a novel mathematical technique which makes it possible to follow the development with time of disturbances and the formation of shocks in magnetized plasmas; (2) the discovery of hitherto unknown wave propagation modes which satisfy the two fluid nonlinear plasma dynamical equations; (3) the experimental detection of radiative modes in an impulsively excited toroidal discharge.
