LASER PUMPING SOURCES

Abstract

The direct conversion of stored chemical energy to radiation suitable for pumping laser materials was investigated. Both explosives and pyrotechnics were studied as well as the possibilities offered by combining the two. The emphasis was on gaining an understanding of the fundamental limitations in producing high radiation intensity, long pulse duration, and high overall energy conversion efficiency for these radiation sources.
