PROCEDURES FOR EVALUATING COATED REFRACTORY METAL SHEET.

Abstract

A set of test procedures which could be used uniformly to compare coating systems is described. The intent of these procedures is to compare the oxidation resistance of coated refractory metal sheet and the effect of a coating on the mechanical properties of the sheet. Deviations from these procedures will make meaningful comparison and evaluation difficult or impossible. Therefore, deviations must be reported and justified. An important variable which significantly influences oxidation resistance and mechanical properties is coating thickness. A 'typical' coating thickness should be applied to specimens for both oxidation and mechanical property tests so that comparisons will be meaningful.
