PRODUCTION ENGINEERING MEASURE FOR CAPACITOR VAPORIZED TEFLON, METALLIZED GLOW-DISCHARGED DEPOSITED DIELECTRIC FILM.

Abstract

Additional capacitors of all three ratings were wound and tests were performed at each stage of manufacturing to determine, if possible, the particular manufacturing operation which was causing most of the difficulty. The major problems encountered were high power factor again and low insulation resistance in the 1.0 mfd. and 4.0 mfd. capacitors. One of the manufacturing procedures which apparently was causing some difficulty was the soldering of the pigtails by normal production techniques. Since it was found that the use of normal temperatures required for making the solder connection of the pigtail to the section coupled with the pressures caused by the application of the soldering iron would cause an apparent rupture of the aluminum electrode at the point of contact. It was also found that cooling of the sections to room temperature was necessary to avoid overheating during the spraying operation. (Author)
