NUMERICAL METHODS AND PROGRAM DESCRIPTION FOR THE INVERSE PROBLEM OF LINEEARIZED, FULLYCAVITATATTATING HYDROFOIL THEORY,

Abstract

This Memorandum documents the numerical methods used in and the computer program written for a recent study of fully-cavitating hydrofoils, as reported in a companion Memorandum (RM-3566-PR). The computer routines have been devised to calculate the profile shapes for two design methods and an off-design consideration of the problem. The present report briefly discusses each of the three methods, and proceeds to detailed presentations of the corresponding subroutines. The three methods encompass the cases of shockless-entry, nose-singularity, and the off-design calculations; their respective subroutines are entitled SECT3, SECT4, and SECT5. Various subsidiary subprograms are presented, together with a complete program listing. The program is written in FORTRAN II for the IBM 7090. An index to the subroutines and subprograms as discussed in the text and as presented in the listing (which is contained in the appendix) is provided. (Author)
