NUMERICAL SOLUTION OF FUNCTIONAL EQUATIONS BY MEANS OF LAPLACE TRANSFORM. VIII: DETERMINATION OF WEIGHTING FUNCTIONS,

Abstract

In a recent article, Beck and Rescigno point out that there are some important biochemical and physiological tracer experiments in which it is necessary to determine the weighting function k(t), given the input function f(t) and the output function u(t). The procedure given in their paper does not seem well suited to experimental or numerical work, since it depends upon the evaluation of various limits and derivatives of k(t). In this paper, the authors indicate how the procedures used in their previous papers based on the Laplace transform apply directly to this problem, and the significance of these procedures as far as experimental techniques are concerned.
