VARIOUS PROPERTIES OF THE POISSON DISTRIBUTION,

Abstract

A table is presented of properties of the Poisson distribution which have been found useful in working with a variety of operational models. In particular the properties proved useful to the authors in obtaining explicit expressions for inventory levels, backorders, and stockout costs under various assumptions concerning the lead time distribution and penalty functions. Some of the relationships are almost immediately obvious; but were included in the paper for the sake of completeness.
