MANUFACTURE AND GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF FLAT PLYWOOD,

Abstract

Plywood is manufactured by bonding thin sheets of wood (veneers) together with adhesives in such a way that the mechanical and physical properties of the wood are redistributed. This manufacture of plywood requires special equipment, knowledge, and technique. Important steps in the process of making flat plywood are outlined here, as well as information on types and grades and some properties of plywood. The information is based upon observations of factory practice and upon extensive experiments at the Forest Products Laboratory. (Author)
