WORLD-WIDE HISTORIC VICTORY OF THE SOVIET PEOPLE,

Abstract

From a political viewpoint, this editorial is an exposition of the current Soviet view on the causes and results of World War Two. From a military viewpoint the editorial contains a number of interesting points for a Western reader: (1) Some indications of the weakness in Soviet military thinking and planning in the pre-World War Two Period; (2) An enumeration of problems in the area of strategy and tactics to which Soviet planners are called upon to devote their attention if they are to be prepared for future emergencies; (3) A discussion of factors, operative in the current international framework and now in evidence, which constitute long-range warning signs of possible war in the future.
