ON THE DETERMINATION OF CHARACTERISTIC VALUES FOR A CLASS OF STURM- LIOUVILLE PROBLEMS

Abstract

In this paper is presented a new method for obtaining the characteristic values of the Sturm-Liouville problem u' + lambda a(t)u = o, u(o) = u(1) = o. The method yields upper and lower bounds and is particularly suitable for problems in which the first and second characteristic values are desired to a high degree of accuracy.
