INTELLECTUAL UNREST BEHIND THE IRON CURTAIN,

Abstract

There is ferment among the intellectuals behind the Iron Curtain. It manifested itself most dramatically in Poland and Hungary where a full-fledged literature of rebellion emerged last year, but in Soviet Russia, too, the symptoms of nonconformmism among the literati are unmistakeable. The political background and significance of this phenomenon are discussed.
