A TABULATION OF THE MEAN H ALPHA PROFILE OBSERVED PHOTOELECTRICALLY ON 21 DECEMBER 1962.

Abstract

The paper is a tabulation of the mean H alpha line profile at the center of the quiet solar disk observed photoelectrically on 21 December 1962 from 2000 UT to 2200 UT. In order to obtain a mean solar intensity, the intensities from the central one-hundredth of the solar image were averaged optically before entering the spectrograph. Four sets of the optically-averaged data were corrected for scattered light and variations in the sky transparency, calibrated in units of the local continuum at the center of the disk, and averaged numerically to give the final intensities presented here. H alpha filtergrams taken at the time of the photoelectric observations show no plages, sunspots, or filaments in the area of the solar disk that defines these observations. The observations cover a band about six angstroms wide centered on H alpha, and the data points are spaced .016A apart. The average central intensity is .155 = .002 of the local continuum. The central wavelength as defined by a mean center of symmetry is 6562.84A = .01A. (Author)
