RESEARCH ON NOISE IN CROSSED-FIELD GUNS.
Abstract
Design of a short Kino gun to be used in a low noise crossed-field amplifier is discussed. This gun design was based upon the minimization of diocotron gain in the gun region. The design of the amplifier is briefly discussed. Measurements for gain, power and noise figure are described. The beam characteristics can be improved by proper optimization. Results under optimized conditions and measurements on the optimization of noise figure are also discussed. Spacecharge smoothing of noise figure is noticed and a minimum noise figure of 16.7 db at S-band was measured. (Author)
