THE RATES OF CHANGE OF SATELLITE ORBITAL ELEMENTS CAUSED BY A PERTURBING FORCE,

Abstract

The instantaneous rates of change of satellite orbital elements caused by a perturbing force are derived from astronomical perturbation theory involving tedious mathematical transformations. The purpose of this report is to give a simplified derivation of the same equations by using only elementary principles of mechanics. It is hoped that this approach will make the meaning of the equations more accessible. (Author)
